Plumonary Surfactant Activities of the Left and Right Lung Washings of the Rabbit by the Number of Measurement

Abstract
The pulmonary surfactant activities of the left and right lung washings of the rabbit were measured using the modified Langriuir-V4ilhelmy balance, and the change of the activities by the number of the measurement was also observed.
The results are summarized as follows:
1. The ratio of the right lung weight and the body weight was 1.430.03, whereas that of the left lung weight and the body weight was 1.330.03.
2. In the pulmonary surfactant activities of the right bang washings, the maximum tension did not change much from the second till nth measurement, but the minimum tension decreased continuously from the first measurement. The width cf the tension-area (TA) diagrkm at 40¢¥J~ showed a tendency of the stabilized values at the 5th and Gth measurements, while the stability index(fi) became stabilized from the 4th measurement.
3. In the left lung washings, the maximum tension showed no change from the second measurement, whereas the minimum tension became stabilized from the 4th measurement. The width and S were stabilized from the 4th measurement.
4. From the above, it rsay be said that the maximum tensions in the left and right lun; :vashings were similar, but the minirzum tension is higher in the left lung washings, whereas the width showed a higher value in the right lung washings. The S is lower in the left lar:g washinges than in the right.
